• Basketball: Falmouth girls fall just short against Windham

    January 26, 2023

The Eagles ultimately went ahead by 10, but Falmouth rallied, pulling within four points at 34-30 on a Christman basket with 4:06 to play, but the Navigators wouldn’t score again and thanks in large part to the heroics of junior Stella Jarvais and sophomore Brianna Duarte, Windham closed out a 38-30 victory.

Jarvais led all scorers 14 points as the Eagles improved to 6-8 on the season while dropping Falmouth to 2-10 in the process.

“Maddy is a defensive force for us,” said Navigators coach Dawn Armandi. “She is the best shot blocker in Class A. Unfortunately, she got taken out of the game with fouls. Sometimes calls go your way and sometimes they don’t. That certainly hurt us, but I think we played hard.”on goes here

    June 19, 2023

Outlook: Windham is pursuing its first Class A title, while Oxford Hills seeks its first since 1999. Windham has earned three playoff wins by a combined score of 14-0, including 5-0 in the South final over Biddeford. Brooke Gerry, a junior, has been dominant in the circle, throwing all three playoff shutouts and striking out 33 in 21 innings while allowing only five hits. The Eagles, however, have been just as potent at the plate, with a balanced attack led by Stella Jarvais (.515 average, including .818 in three playoff games), Gerry (.571), Kennedy Kimball (.452), Addie Caiazzo (.339), Oakley McLeod (.316) and Jaydn Kimball, who since returning for the start of the postseason is 4 for 7 with a home run and four RBI. … Oxford Hills was just as dominant in the North region before proving its mettle with a 4-3 walk-off win over Skowhegan in the final. Three Vikings – catcher Kaydence Morse, pitcher Kyeria Morse and first baseman Maddy Miller – were first-team all-KVAC, with Kaydence Morse (.443) named Player of the Year. A question for the Vikings will be handling nerves; Oxford Hills starts four freshmen, including Kyeria Morse (12-1, 0.50 ERA, 129 strikeouts), and two sophomores, and they’ll need to be ready for the moment to avoid falling into a hole against Gerry.

  • Softball: Windham top Kennebunk/Sanford, 4-0, in Class A South semifinals

WINDHAM — With a return trip to the Class A South final on the line, the usual suspects – plus one who had been missing – made sure the Windham High softball team got the job done.

The Eagles (16-2) next face a familiar foe: No. 1 Biddeford (17-1), which beat Gorham, 10-6, in the other semifinal. It’ll be the teams’ seventh showdown in three years, and second straight in the regional final.

“We motivated each other to get to where we are,” said Jarvais, who went 3 for 3 with an RBI. “Everyone’s goal is to get to the state game, and (at the) regional final, it’s so exciting to be playing for it.”

For multi-sport athletes, summer’s a busy, hectic season

    July 31, 2022

For older athletes like Wilcox, Laughlin and Douin, being able to drive themselves helps ease the logistical burden.

Stella Jarvais, 15, doesn’t have that luxury. Jarvais will be a sophomore at Windham after a freshman year when she was an all-SMAA choice in both soccer and softball and played varsity basketball. Her summer also includes playing for the Maine Thunder club softball team.

“For rides, I rely on my teammates just because I’m able to get more of a bond with them,” Jarvais said.
